Technical Lead – Polymers

The Role

The Technical Lead will act as technical authority for thermoplastic polymer film materials and manage
new business development activities for the business unit. The team member will become fully conversant in the attributes and processing methods of a range of polymer materials. This will involve interpreting customer and regulatory requirements, ensuring our products align fully with them as well as leading product improvement initiatives to improve the quality and performance of our products.

The successful candidate will build a comprehensive understanding of TPU film applications. By conducting market research for new materials, supporting collaborative developments with customers and partners and managing development of new material grades, the Technical Lead will identify new customers, applications and opportunities to achieve ambitious business growth.

Responsibilities include:

• Technical Authority – working with the quality and process engineering departments to ensure our products are compliant with the relevant requirements and standards.
• Product Development – Managing new product development projects in a time effective manner.
• Market Research – review the raw material supplier market to identify new materials that will enhance Permali’s thermoplastic product portfolio.
• Administration – creating and maintaining a directory of product files with technical data sheets, test results, approvals management, regulatory compliance statements & health & safety guidance.
• Process Optimisation – work with Process Engineering to ensure products are being produced by the most efficient / cost effective method.
• Process Research – research and understand customer processes associated with Permali’s thermoplastic products and help advise best practice to our customers.
• Product Promotion – enable the Sales & Marketing team by applying technical understanding of Permali’s products to commercial product literature and digital campaigns from the point of view of the market (customer).

Key Skills and attributes:

• Minimum 2 years of experience working in a similar role with Polymer materials or trained in Materials Science / Engineering or similar to HNC level or above.
• An appreciation for, or experience of commercial sales in a B2B setting.
• Excellent computer skills, with working experience of using the MS Office suite, with a desire to learn new software packages.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills – written and verbal. Ability to communicate information, whether technical or non-technical to team members and customers in a clear and concise manner
• A strong work ethic with good organisational skills and excellent punctuality and attendance.
• An ambition to succeed, develop professional skills, and make a positive impact.
• Ability to work under pressure, be proactive, inquisitive, quick to learn, and capable of multitasking

Salary: £27,500 – £32,500 a year
